How to Prepare for Your Permanent Makeup Appointment

Preparing properly for your permanent makeup appointment helps ensure the best possible results and a smooth, comfortable treatment experience.

At GLAMHER, our approach to permanent makeup focuses on enhancing your natural beauty with soft, elegant results. Proper preparation allows the skin to receive pigment more evenly and supports optimal healing afterward.

Whether you’re receiving a brow treatment, lip blush, or a paramedical tattoo, the following guidelines will help you prepare for your appointment.

Two Weeks Before Your Appointment

In the weeks leading up to your appointment, it’s important to keep the skin healthy and avoid anything that may cause irritation or sensitivity.

• Avoid direct sun exposure, tanning beds, or sunburn on the treatment area.

• Discontinue the use of retinol, retinoids, or strong exfoliating skincare products near the treatment area.

• Avoid chemical peels, laser treatments, or other resurfacing treatments.

• If you receive Botox or dermal fillers, schedule them at least two weeks before or after your permanent makeup appointment.

Healthy, calm skin allows pigment to implant more evenly and supports better healing.

One Week Before Your Appointment

During the week before your treatment, focus on maintaining balanced, hydrated skin.

• Avoid facials, microneedling, chemical peels, or laser treatments.

• Avoid waxing, threading, or tinting the treatment area within 5–7 days of your appointment.

• Avoid introducing new skincare products that could cause irritation.

• Keep the skin well hydrated using gentle, non-irritating products.

For paramedical tattooing, the treatment area must be fully healed and stable before tattooing can be performed. In most cases, scars should be at least 6–12 months healed prior to treatment.

48 Hours Before Your Appointment

In the days before your appointment, avoid substances that may increase skin sensitivity or minor bleeding.

• Avoid alcohol.

• Reduce caffeine intake if possible.

• Avoid blood-thinning supplements such as fish oil, vitamin E, or ginkgo biloba.

These substances can make the skin more sensitive during treatment and may affect pigment retention.

The Day of Your Appointment

On the day of your appointment, arrive with clean skin and allow yourself time to relax and enjoy the experience.

• Cleanse the treatment area thoroughly before your appointment.

• Do not apply makeup, lotions, or oils to the treatment area.

• Eat a light meal beforehand to maintain stable blood sugar levels.

• Wear comfortable clothing and plan to relax during your appointment.

Your appointment will include a detailed consultation, custom design and mapping, and the treatment itself to ensure results that complement your natural features.
